On Tuesday, October 18, Samsung and Google announced the premier of the Galaxy Nexus phone, due to debut on Verizon Wireless in the U.S., Great Britain, and, Japan in November.
Things I like about the Galaxy Nexus phone (GN):
1. The camera - good in low light, takes photos back to back quickly, can take snapshots while shooting video.
2. Screenshots. This feature should have been on Android before the GN, better late than never I suppose.
3. Tracking data usage. This is a welcome feature for power users who push the envelope.
5 things which annoy me about the Galaxy Nexus (GN):
1. Super AMOLED HD instead of Super AMOLED Plus.
2. TI OMAP SOC instead of Exynos SOC (SOC is sytem on a chip - the CPU and GPU).
3. Lack of an interchangeable sd card.
4. 4.65” screen versus 4.0” screen.
5. 1750 mAH battery is weak on a 4G phone with a huge screen.
6. Some of the new features seem gimmicky. Using facial recognition to unlock the lock screen and the android beam feature will get “oohs” and “ahs”, but won’t be used much after people tire of playing with them.
The Samsung Galaxy Nexus with Android OS 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS), is the most intriguing Android phone to be announced since the first Android phone, the Motorola Droid was announced in 2009. Will Verizon wireless subscribers rush out to get the Galaxy Nexus? Are many folks willing to switch carriers to get this phone? There is only one way to find out - let’s wait and see.
